The famous Glaswegian venue King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut is possibly the beating heart of this city’s music scene. Any other bar or venue would be quiet on a relatively mild Tuesday night in April, but this small venue is bustling with fans of the American pop-punk band, Patent Pending. There is an indescribable atmosphere in the queue, half an hour before doors open there is a sense of family in the air. It is evident that this band is making more than just music.
First on stage was Sheffield-based pop punchers Sweet Little Machine. They warmed the crowd up fast with their high-energy performance. By including the ever-growing crowd in a singalong, people were being won over left and right. It is very clear that this band is destined for great things and may be the new face of the UK pop-punk scene. Sweet Little Machine’s EP War is available online now.
Eternal Boy took to the stage shortly after and the atmosphere in the room doubled. The Pittsburgh rockers shared their experiences of the tour so far, and appeared relaxed and at home onstage. Their witty sense of humor matched the famous Glasgow banter as the crowd heckled responses. After playing some original songs, Eternal Boy switched it up with a cover of blink-182’s ‘What’s My Age Again?’ which got the sweaty crowd going even more. All in all, they too were well received as well as a pleasure to photograph.
The vivacity of the crowd intensified as the backdrop was changed to a Stranger Thingsinspired logo before Patent Pending came onstage. The theme song of the Netflix show was played as the lights dimmed and the smoke machines were put to use. Patent Pending flew straight into “Little Miss Impossible” with an unfathomable amount of passion as lead singer Joe Ragosta launched himself over the barrier to crowd surf. After posing for a few photos and scaling the length of the photo pit, the pop punk legends burst out fan favorites such as “Psycho in Love,” “The Whiskey, The Liar, The Thief,” and “Let Go.” The band’s upcoming release Other People’s Greatest Hits is due to be released on May 26th 2017, but you can grab a copy at shows on their current tour.
